   3 Pics Update Current 2005

ONE PIECE BODY IS AVAILABLE AS A KIT BIT

# Note: The following pics in black show the body as it comes out of the mould. It still has to go to the painters.

Riding a Trike may not add years to your life, but shit it adds life to your years.

Mike the fibreglassers story.

How I came to meet Ding Bob in his own words:

1 November 2002 Continuing:

I first met Ding Bob about 6 years ago long before my creation on this page came to fruition. He rode up to my shop on a real WILD looking Harley Fatboy Trike. That got my attention real quick.

Anyhow this bloke wanders in to the shop with a few bits of cardboard stuck together with masking tape and asks me if I could make this out of fibreglass.

"No problem" I said. "What the fuck is it ?" I had to ask.

Now this is about the time I found out that Bob was Italian. Anyway he proceeded to explain what it was.

I had to take a couple of steps back, because, as he was talking he was flapping his arms about all over the place. Continued below:

You could call Mike and Wendy's Trike A 'coupe-de-trike'.

This Body is based on a 28A Ford Roadster and fits snugly on the new Ding Bob Trikes Australia 2003/4 Model Frame.

It is a one piece body designed to carry the rider and two passengers.

Power is Type 3 VW 1600cc Automatic which also bolts straight up to the new frame.

I still didn't get what this cardboard held together with sticky tape thing was so I says to him "Could you show me where it goes on the trike"

"Wotsa matta witha you, canna you unerstanda englisia" he says waving his arms around again.

We wandered outside and he showed me what he wanted. I can't at this time remember exactly what it was or where it went, but I made it and delivered it out to his shop.

Now that just about decked me as I had never seen so many Trikes in my life and to be honest, the ones that I had seen hadn't really done much for me. But this lot were really different. These Trikes looked Wild.

To cut a long story short Bob must have liked what I did because I've been doing all his glassing ever since. (Even with a broken leg for the past two years.)

It was when my leg was broken that I decided that it was time to leave the 2 wheeled motorcycles and build myself a Trike. Continued below:

A Harley front end bolts straight on - in this case a Wideglide Custom with a 21 inch front wheel.

5 degree raked Wide Glide triple clamps - 4 inch over length 41 mm forks.

Nice wide bars - all chrome switch blocks and master cylinder.

By this stage I had built quite a few Custom Trike bodies for Bob and had an idea of what I thought would look good as a Trike for myself.

I had always liked the look of the early Ford A Coupe's and was lucky enough to 'borrow' the rear end of a 1928 model A Coupe from a friend of Bob's who was building a Hot Rod.

I copied the bits that I needed and proceeded to cut and shut the panels to fit around one of Bob's frames. That covered the arse end of the Trike.

I then fabricated the Dummy tank which is based on a stretched Banana Harley tank. Next came the floor boards and seat.

I am not kidding when I say that it took a couple of thousand hours, shaping, glassing and sanding to get to this point. But now that it is painted I am very pleased with the look.

Now is about the time I should thank my wife for putting up with all the noise, dust and late nights spent in the garage (our car had to live outside). Without her support and help - she is a damn good fibreglasser in her own right -  this project would not have gone together so well.

27 November 02.

All I have to do now is finish the Upholstery and a few other bits-n-pieces and she is done. BUT before I get onto that - because of the interest shown in this body - I am making a mould of it and it will be available as a Kit Bit. Email me from the next page for more info.
